Guest Contributor: Ed on Spanish Collection

Whether I’m traveling the world or running errands at home, I love meeting new people. Many of those people become great friends. Ed Blissard is a perfect example of that. Ed operates one of my favorite places to visit while I’m home - Purple Martin Nurseries and Purple Martin Outpost- home to all things gorgeous, flowering and green. In addition to being a great friend, Ed has been instrumental in helping make sure my home is holiday and party ready (his floral arrangements are simply to die for) and I hold his opinion in high regard. Because he has a great eye for making things look exquisite, I asked him to be a guest contributor on our blog.
When Laura approached me about being a guest contributor on the blog, I knew exactly what I wanted to share – my affinity for the Coton Colors Spanish Collection.
I walked into the Coton Colors showroom in Atlanta last January and was immediately drawn to the Spanish Collection. While in the showroom, Laura took the time to share with me the history behind the clay used to make the pieces and how she worked hand-in-hand with the Spanish artisans to come up with just the right designs. Her excitement over the new collection was contagious, and after seeing and hearing her stories, I totally got it. The color palettes are earthy and rugged. The hand-painted artistry is exquisite, and the quality of talavera is second to none. It’s evident that these pieces are rooted in rich Spanish tradition. Their intricate designs contain cultural influences reflecting family traditions and detailed artistry that have been around for centuries. I knew that I needed get my hands on these pieces as soon as they became available.
I was thrilled to put these pieces to use, and I knew the perfect opportunity to debut my new collection. Very dear friends of mine, Timmy and Meredith, recently welcomed their first son James into the world. Timmy is of Spanish descent and is known for his dinner parties. He is an outstanding cook. His divine menus and hospitable nature make a night at their house always unforgettable. Because Timmy does so much for others, I wanted to return the favor and host them for dinner. After all, they might need a night off from cooking given their new role as parents.
The theme was…you guessed it…Spanish. Whenever I’m entertaining, I always want the vibe to be effortless. I want my guests to feel relaxed and at home. The tablescape had a Mediterranean touch and was set with pieces from the Dedos and Circulos Spanish collections. The menu? Spanish Pork Braise and an assortment of olives, figs, and fruits for snacking. We topped the evening off with a delightful Spanish wine that is one of my favorites. Between the food, wine, and a timeless Spanish tablescape, I think a great night was had by all.
